Anlässlich Enrico Carusos 150. Geburtstag veranstaltet L'Opera Piccola e. V. im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum des Vereins ein Konzert zu Ehren des legendären Tenors, der am 25.02.1873 in der Via San Giovanni e Paolo 7 in Neapel geboren wurde.

Das Galakonzert am 25.02.2023 im Kurhaus von Bad Schwalbach hält viele Überraschungen bereit: Federico Caruso, der Urenkel von Enrico Caruso, wird als Ehrengast aus Neapel zum Konzert nach Bad Schwalbach anreisen. Vor allem das Konzertprogramm wird die Herzen von Opernfans höher schlagen lassen. Ein großes Aufgebot an Tenören gibt sich die Ehre und präsentiert eindrucksvoll Carusos berühmteste Arien und neapolitanischen Lieder. Auch bekannte Namen wie Sung Min Song aus Korea oder Jeffrey Hartman aus den Vereinigten Staaten gehören zu den Solisten. Des Weiteren sind an diesem Abend Massimo Sirigu und Alessio Borraggine aus Italien sowie Antonis Koroneos aus Griechenland zu hören. Außerdem hat Karen Stuke von der 'Caruso Kronenboden Collection Berlin' ihr Kommen zugesagt. In ihrer Sammlung befinden sich 122 Original-Caruso-Schellak-Platten, von denen sie einige vor, in der Pause und nach dem Konzert auf ihrem antiken Grammophon erklingen lässt.

Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts stieg Caruso, aus einfachen Verhältnissen stammend, zum berühmtesten und bedeutendsten Tenor weltweit auf. Seinen riesigen Erfolg verdankte er nicht allein seinen unvergleichlichen Opernarien, sondern auch seinen wunderschönen, volkstümlichen Liedern aus dem Repertoire der 'Canzone napoletana', darunter insbesondere 'O sole mio' von Eduardo Di Capua, der weltweiten Ruhm durch Carusos Interpretation erlangte.

Bereits als Kind sang Enrico Caruso im Kirchenchor und erhielt schon mit 16 Jahren professionellen Gesangsunterricht bei Guglielmo Vergine sowie später bei Vincenzo Lombardi. Sein erstes Engagement hatte er mit 19 Jahren in seiner Heimatstadt Neapel, seinen Durchbruch erzielte Caruso jedoch erst im Jahr 1898 in Mailand als 'Loris' in der Uraufführung von Umberto Giordanos Oper 'Fedora'. Ab 1903 begann Carusos unaufhaltsame Karriere als lyrischer Tenor an den großen Theatern, darunter insbesondere die Metropolitan Opera in New York. Er faszinierte die Opernwelt mit der einzigartigen Schönheit und Strahlkraft seiner warmen, für einen Tenor sehr dunklen, baritonalen Stimme und seinem kunstvollen Singen in technischer Vollendung. Zudem bestach er durch seine außergewöhnliche Bühnenpräsenz und seinem großen schauspielerischen Talent. Enrico Carusos Repertoire umfasste 67 zum Teil höchst anspruchsvolle Opernrollen und hunderte Lieder. An der Met hält er den Rekord von 863 Auftritten innerhalb von 17 Jahren (zwischen November 1903 und Dezember 1920).

On the occasion of Enrico Caruso's 150th birthday, L'Opera Piccola e. V. is organising a concert in honour of the legendary tenor, who was born on 25.02.1873 at Via San Giovanni e Paolo 7 in Naples, as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the association.

The gala concert on February 25, 2023 at the Kurhaus in Bad Schwalbach has many surprises in store: Federico Caruso, the great-grandson of Enrico Caruso, will travel from Naples to Bad Schwalbach for the concert as guest of honour. Above all, the concert programme will make the hearts of opera fans beat faster. A large contingent of tenors will do the honours and impressively present Caruso's most famous arias and Neapolitan songs. Well-known names such as Sung Min Song from Korea or Jeffrey Hartman from the United States are also among the soloists. Furthermore, Massimo Sirigu and Alessio Borraggine from Italy and Antonis Koroneos from Greece can be heard on this evening. Karen Stuke from the 'Caruso Kronenboden Collection Berlin' has also confirmed her attendance. Her collection includes 122 original Caruso Schellak records, some of which she will play on her antique gramophone before, during the interval and after the concert.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Caruso, who came from a humble background, rose to become the most famous and important tenor in the world. He owed his enormous success not only to his incomparable operatic arias, but also to his beautiful, popular songs from the 'Canzone napoletana' repertoire, including in particular 'O sole mio' by Eduardo Di Capua, which achieved worldwide fame through Caruso's interpretation.

Already as a child Enrico Caruso sang in the church choir and at the age of 16 he received professional singing lessons from Guglielmo Vergine and later from Vincenzo Lombardi. He had his first engagement at the age of 19 in his hometown of Naples, but Caruso did not achieve his breakthrough until 1898 in Milan as 'Loris' in the world premiere of Umberto Giordano's opera 'Fedora'. From 1903 Caruso's unstoppable career as a lyric tenor began at the great theatres, including in particular the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He fascinated the opera world with the unique beauty and radiance of his warm baritone voice, very dark for a tenor, and his artful singing with technical perfection. In addition, he captivated the audience with his extraordinary stage presence and his great acting talent. Enrico Caruso's repertoire included 67 operatic roles, some of them highly demanding, and hundreds of songs. At the Met, he holds the record of 863 performances within 17 years (between November 1903 and December 1920).
